Steps to Draw Sonic
The image below breaks down Sonic’s iconic design into easy-to-follow steps. Perfect for beginners and fans alike, this guide will help you capture Sonic’s cool attitude and dynamic look.

Step 1: Start with Sonic’s Nose and Snout

Start by drawing a small bean-like shape tilted slightly upward and then add a circle on the top. This forms Sonic’s snout and nose as shown in the image. Slightly highlight the circle at the top with your pencil for a highlighted look.
Step 2: Sketch the Outline of the Mask

From the nose, sketch a big curved shape that forms the top and back of Sonic’s mask. Keep it rounded with a dip for the eye area.
Step 3: Draw the Glove and Hand

Add four short, curved fingers for the glove, as Sonic’s gloves have no visible thumb. Complete it with a smooth curved line to form the glove’s cuff at the wrist.
Step 4: Overlapping the Hands

Draw the character’s gloved hand positioned in front of his body, naturally covering the area where his other arm would be. If there is any confusion regarding the guide, you can simply follow the image we created.
Step 5: Draw the Upper Body/ Outfit

Now, draw Sonic’s small upper body, which will also represent his outfit. Sketch a simple curve or round-like shape connecting to his overlapping hand.
Step 6: Sketch the Legs

Design two thin vertical legs starting under the upper body shape. The legs must be slightly apart to create a balanced and natural athletic posture.
Step 7: Add Tail

Add tiny triangle-like spike just behind his body which somehow look like tail, pointing downward, which will later connect with his hair. Review the image above.
Step 8: Add the Spikes

Draw the iconic head spikes. Draw three long, sharp spikes pointing toward the back. They should curve naturally like flowing hair.
Step 9: Draw the left Sock

Add three small ovals on the left side of the leg to represent the sock; this layered shape will later refine the shape of the shoe.
Step 10: Sketch the Right Sock

Following the same step, we tried to create the left socks and complete drawing the right sock as well. Make sure you have mirrored the left and right socks, as we need to create a show a natural look.
Step 11: Design the Left Shoe

Start with a curved triangle shape slightly pointed. Rounded at the tip and thicker at the sole. Add defining lines to complete the shape. Angle the left shoe more forward than the right.
Step 12: Complete Drawing the Right Shoe

Repeat the shoe design from the previous step, but position the right shoe slightly behind the left one to create depth. Add detailing lines in the shoe.
Step 13: Add the Ears

Sketch two pointed triangles emerging from the right side of Sonic’s head to represent the ear. Add the left ear behind his head spines as shown in the image provided.
Step 14: Draw the Facial Features

Draw an oval-shaped eye inside the shape of the mask, leaving a small white highlight circle for sparkle. Add a gently curved line beneath the nose to create his confident smirk.
This step will complete our sketching step. Erase any unnecessary lines and move on to the coloring step we have added to keep the sketch alive and to enjoy it fully.
Coloring Sonic
Now let’s color Sonic! Use bright blue for his body and head (hair). Color his face, ears, hand, and belly light beige. Make his shoes red with white in the design line. Don’t forget his white gloves and socks. Add a little white dot in his eyes to make them sparkle. Color carefully and stay inside the lines. Now your Sonic drawing is finished and looks amazing.

Finally Sonic is ready! We hope you had fun coloring like you did while sketching. To make your art more realistic and bold, you can outline with a black marker. This will give Sonic a bold and standout look. For the coloring process, we have used pencil color, but you can choose any of your choice. As per our experience, we recommend you use pencil color, as watercolor or cannon color might mess outside your carefully drawn lines.
