Seashells are the homes of sea animals protecting them which come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Visiting an ocean or beach is fun and finding seashells will be more fun. Today in this tutorial we will learn to draw Seashells.
At the end of this tutorial, you can sketch Seashells by going through the provided steps. It will be fun to draw Seashells. We are drawing three different types of seashells, so it would be so much fun. Let’s start our tutorial with the art materials and equipment. Take out your pencil and a piece of paper to get started.

Steps to Draw Seashells
During summer, wave calls us to the beach and the beach calls us by adding its beauty with seashells around it. Enjoying the beach with the waves and seashells, let’s learn more about it. Here’s a brief preview of today’s tutorial. Please go through the instructions step by step to complete your sketching.
Step 1: Outline Body Whorl of the Seashell
Start by sketching a slightly inclined curve facing the left and from the bottom, sketch a curve more toward the left to draw the body whorl of a seashell. We are using a black marker for outlining our drawing as it gives a sharp and enhanced look to our drawing.
Step 2: Sketch the Curve Above the Body Whorl
Now, start sketching from the left end of the curve you drew in Step 1, sketch another curve with a more rounded tip to form the spires of the seashell. Then, draw an additional curve on the left, moving upward. Now we could see the shape of the first seashell taking form.
Step 3: Add Curves for Spire
Then, draw a curve like in Step 2 from the left to the right. And again, sketch one more short curve on the left moving upward. Here we sketch the third layer of the first seasell.
Step 4: Sketch More Smaller Curve
Similarly, sketch one more curve similar to the curve drawn in previous steps just above the curve drawn in Step 4 but smaller in size. Here we move our seashell structure from the wide to the narrow.
Step 5: Add Curves Inside the Seashell
At the top of the shell, draw a small circle and sketch a line inside it to complete our first seashells. Then sketch short lines in every part of the shell to give a final look at our lovely seashells.
Step 6: Outline the Second Seashell
Again, for another seashell, sketch a slightly inclined curve to the left of the first shell with a bit pointed at the middle. As we are making 3 different types of seashells, the shape and size of the shells will be different.
Step 7: Draw Lines for the Seashell
Now, to give a more defined structure to the seashell, sketch two lines with rounded ends at the outside to the left and two curves at the right. Here we are making a fan shaped seashells.
Step 8: Add More Lines to the Shell
After that, add three more lines at the gap of the seashell. Then draw a curve from the top of the first line to the second line. And again draw another curve to the third line.
Step 9: Draw Irregular Curves Inside the Shell
Then to the bottom of the seashell, draw two small curves to both sides of the pointed area. Then draw an irregular curve inside the shell aligning with the upper layer. And add one more curve just below it. Finally, our second seashell is also completed.
Step 10: Outline the Third Seashell
Again, just above previously drawn seashells, draw a pear-shaped structure with a pointed end to the left for the body whorl of another shell.
Step 11: Sketch C-Shaped Structure for Spire of the Shell
Now, for the spires of the second shell, draw a c-shaped structure at the upper end of the shell drawn in Step 10. Add two more c-shaped structures in smaller sizes.
Step 12: Draw a Curve on the Body Whorl
Next, on the left side, draw a curve along the shell’s body, and add another curve just above it to give the body whorl of the seashell a more defined shape.
Step 13: Sketch Curves inside the Shell
At last, add more curves inside the third shell; two curves inside the body whorl and continue up to the spires of the shell. Finally, we have 3 different shaped seashells, looking wonderful, aren’t they?
Coloring Seashells
We have finished drawing the seashells and moving to the coloring section. For coloring, we have chosen different colors. We are alternately using shades of yellow for the first shell.
Then, we are coloring lime and boxwood yellow for the first seashell, green and dark green for the second shell. Lastly, for the third seashell, we are using bone, light gold and light purple.
Color Details:
- Lime
- Boxwood Yellow
- Green
- Dark Green
- Light Purple
- Bone
- Light Gold
After coloring, we get a beautiful drawing of seashells. We have made it digitally but you can use pencil color.
Our Masterpiece is Ready
