An ocean wave is a sign of saying hello by the ocean to the beach. The way we wave our hands up and down, ocean waves also move up and down, making the water move and sparkle which melts our hearts with its beautiful views. At the same time, we crave such a moment. You can learn to draw waves in this tutorial.
This tutorial will guide you through the step-by-step process of drawing a wave easily. It will be fun to draw a wave easily.

Steps to Draw a Wave
During summer, the beach calls us to share its beautiful and joyful moments with us. One of the most iconic part is the waves formed on the oceans. Today we are drawing an ocean wave. You can preview a short demo of today’s tutorial below. Follow the steps below to draw a wave easily.
Step 1: Draw an Outline for Wave
Start by sketching two vertical lines as a border at the left and right corners of the paper as shown in the image above.
Then, from just below the midpoint of the vertical line of the left corner, draw a half c-shaped structure facing upward and from the end of the first curve, draw another full c-shaped structure that ends at just below the midpoint of the vertical line of the right corner. This leads to the formation of crests and troughs of water waves.
Step 2: Add two more curves
To show the direction of water flow, to the right, draw an additional curve just above the previous curve where it ends at the previous curve’s ending with its inner end being more rounded.
To the left, draw a curve just above the midpoint of the vertical line where it ends just above the second curve of a right vertical line with a more curled end where the distance between the previous curve and the newly drawn curve is more as compared to the curve’s distance of the right.
Step 3: Draw an irregular curve
From the end of the previous curve on the left, draw a short irregular curve pointing towards the right and returning to the inner end of the next curve. Then, continue drawing irregular curves to the left aligning with the upper curve.
Step 4: Add irregular curves
Add some more irregular curves elongated towards the right and bring them back to the left. Then again, draw a short curve towards the right and move it towards the left vertical line.
Step 5: Draw irregular curves at the bottom
Draw one more short irregular curve just below the outline made in Step 1 from the left vertical line. Then you will get the curve which is elongated at the middle.
Step 6: Add one more irregular curve at the bottom
Add up one more simple short irregular curve just above the elongated portion of the previously drawn curve in step 5.
Step 7: Add some more curves
Add two more curves; one at the top and one at the bottom. Then draw a short inclined straight line between two curves in the middle at the top.
Step 8: Draw a cone-shaped structure
To the left, draw a cone-shaped structure from the top irregular curve where the pointed part remains at the top. Add one more short line inside the cone.
Step 9: Add short curves
Add some more short curves aligning to the curves at the right. Draw the first curve at the left just above the cone structure that was made in Step 8 and add five more curves following it.
Step 10: Draw a cone-shaped structure on the bottom
Draw cone-structure from the right end of the bottom irregular curve just like in Step 8. Add a short line inside it.
Step 11: Add some more short lines
To the left, draw four short slightly curved lines just below the irregular curve in the downward direction. Draw one more line to the right at the bottom corner.
Coloring a Wave
After the completion of drawing a wave, let’s add some colors to make it more fun. We are using two different shades of blue for coloring a wave. We are using light blue at the peak of a wave in two different places and darker blue at the base.
Color Details:
- Light Blue
- Dark Blue
For the coloring part, you can use your preferred one. We recommend you use pencil color to make it more natural and not mess up.
