Steps To Draw Octagon
We had drawn a pentagon and hexagon in the previous tutorial and we used a protector and ruler in the previous tutorial to draw those shapes but today we will be using a ruler only to draw an octagon. Here is a short preview of today’s today. Follow us to draw an octagon easily step by step.
Step 1: Draw a Guiding Square
Let’s start by drawing some guidelines. So first draw a perfect square on paper using or pencil. Here we are using a pencil for drawing guidelines as we will erase it in further steps. Also, use a ruler to draw all of these lines to make a perfect octagon.
Step 2: Draw a Vertical Line At the Middle
Now from the middle of the square just draw a vertical line as a guideline. Here also use of pencil as we will be using it on a further step.
Step 3: Draw a Horizontal Line At the Middle
Similarly again from the middle draw another horizontal line that will cross the vertical line that we drew earlier and this will be the guidelines that will help us to draw an octagon in further steps. We have a perfect four square now.
Step 4: Draw Mark On All Small Square
Now on each small square just measure the length and breadth of the small square then mark at 50% of its length and breadth on each small circle.
Step 5: Draw the First Side Of the Octagon
Now on the bottom right square, we have a mark that we drew on the previous step, just join those marks using a ruler. Finally, we are using a black marker to give a good clean look to our octagon drawing and this is our first side of the octagon.
Step 6: Draw the Second Side Of the Octagon
Similarly, at the bottom of the square, we have two marks just join them to make the second side of our octagon. We are enjoying this tutorial so much as this is the very easiest method to draw an octagon using just a ruler.
Step 7: Draw the Third Side Of the Octagon
Again at the lower left side of the square, we have two marks just join those two marks to draw the third side of our octagon.
Step 8: Draw the Fourth Side Of the Octagon
Similarly, on the left side we have two marks so just join those two marks to draw the fourth side of our octagon. It’s a very easy tutorial we are repeating the same step in each step.
Step 9: Draw the Fifth Side Of the Octagon
Once again, we have a mark at the left top square so join those two marks to draw the fifth side of our octagon. It is one of the easiest methods to draw an octagon.
Step 10: Draw the Sixth Side Of the Octagon
We’re near to end of today’s tutorial. Similarly, we have two marks at the top of our square just join them to draw the sixth side of our octagon.
Step 11: Draw the Seventh Side Of the Octagon
Once again we have a mark on the right side of a small square, just join them using a ruler to make a perfect octagon.
Step 12: Draw the Eighth Side Of the Octagon
Finally, just join the remaining two marks on the right side of our big square. Now, we have the eighth side of our octagon. By this guide, we have a perfect octagon on our paper. Step 13: Erase Guidelines
finally, we have a perfect octagon on our paper so let’s erase those rough lines or guidelines that we drew on steps one two three just to make a perfect octagon. So, erase all of those lines for a clean and tidy look and if you want to color the octagon move forward to the next step.
Coloring a Octagon
After finishing the drawing, we wanted to add some colors to our octagon. We have chosen some of the basic color but you can fill color according to your preferences too,

Our octagon is ready. We colored it digitally but you can color it using a pencil color or water color.
Our Perfect Octagon Is Ready
We drew an octagon step by step using a pencil, ruler and black marker on paper and we also color it too which is optional but you can color it too. This method of drawing an octagon is useful for mathematics too. Mostly, people use a circle methods too but we choose square method as we find this one easier.
