Step 1: Draw the Jawline

draw goku - step 1: sketch the jawline

Start by drawing a rounded “V” shape. This will be the base of Goku’s face — his jaw and chin area. This step will later give the character a finishing look on his face.

Step 2: Sketch the First Front Hair Spike

Above the jawline, draw a small pointed spike to begin forming Goku’s hair. This first spike sits at the left of the forehead.

Step 3: Connect Hair to Face

Now complete the hair spike on the left side and connect it to the jawline by shaping the top of the head as shown in the image. This creates the forehead and part of the upper face outline.

Step 4: Sketch the Ear

Draw both ears on either side of the head, positioned just beneath the hair spikes. Use a C-shaped curve to outline each ear.

Step 5: Add the Right Side Hair

To draw the side hair spikes, sketch sharp, curved lines extending outward from the sides of the head. These spikes should point slightly upward and mimic the iconic style of Goku’s wild hair.

Step 6: Sketch the left Side Hair

Repeat the previous step by drawing a curved line from the left side to complete the hairline. Ensure it matches the right side for a balanced and strong appearance.

Step 7: Complete Designing the Hair

Add the big upper spikes of Goku’s hair on both sides. These should be large, curved points going up and out. This process will finally complete the shape of the character’s hair.

Step 8: Add Details to the Ears

Simply, inside the ear, draw small curved details to shape the ear structure. You can add simple lines to give structure or a curved finish, as shown in the image above.

Step 9: Draw the Neck

From the bottom of the jaw, sketch two straight lines downward to form the neck. Add two slight curves for his collarbones.

Step 10: Shape the Shoulders

Extend two straight lines from the neck to begin forming the shoulders of the character. These lines will help outline his outfit in the following steps.

Step 11: Add Details

After forming the shape of the shoulder, add a few short lines on it to show folds and muscle detail. If you are confused regarding the guide, follow the reference image provided.

Step 12: Sketch the left eye

Draw almond-shaped eyes with bold outlines. Inside each eye, fill in the iris with black, but leave a small white spot to create a shiny highlight. Add a curved line above the eye to represent the eyebrow of the character; this will give a straight and expressive look.

Step 13: Draw the right eye

Repeat the same steps to draw the right eye, mirroring the left. Make sure both eyes are evenly shaped to give a balanced and accurate look.

Step 14: Add the Nose and Mouth

Draw a small pointed nose in the center using just two lines — one vertical and one diagonal line for simplicity. Sketch a small, confident smile just below the nose. Add a short line under the lip to show his lower lip. Complete the facial feature by adding some lines on his cheek for an expressive look.

Step 15: Finalize the Drawing

Add two curved lines at the back of the hair, following the shape of the head to define the side sections. This will complete our sketching process. Clean off any extra lines from the drawing to jump into the coloring process.

Coloring the Goku

Now that your drawing is complete, it’s time to add color! Start by filling in Goku’s spiky hair with solid black using a marker or dark pencil, leaving small white highlights for shine. For his skin, use a light peach or brown to keep it natural. Color his eyebrow black like his hair and add some white color in his nose for some highlights. Finally, make his icon stand out by coloring the undershirt bright orange.
