A zebra is a wild African animal known for the black-and-white striped coat on the body. Here, we will share a simple step-by-step guide to draw a zebra.
Zebra play a great role in their ecosystem by grazing on grasses, helping to maintain plant balance. We hope you will enjoy the tutorial. Follow the guide below.

Steps To Draw A Zebra
Here are the brief instructions for today’s tutorial. Follow the steps given to draw a zebra, and by the end of this tutorial, you will learn to draw it perfectly.
Step 1: Roughly Outline The Shape of Head
Begin by drawing an oval shape in the centre of your paper, as shown in the picture. Then, sketch a curved line from the top of the head to form the neck. We use a pencil for drawing the rough sketches. So that it will be easier to erase on further steps.
Step 2: Sketch The Snout
To form a snout, follow the shape of the head. Then add two curved lines to define the mouth and from the side, slightly draw the neck. While drawing a fair outline use a black marker or pen.
Step 3: Outline The Body Shape
As shown in the picture, for reference, draw an oval shape, connecting it to the neck for the body part. Below the body, outline parallel lines for the upper and lower parts of the legs.
Step 4: Draw The Front Side Legs
Sketch two slightly curved lines downward to outline the front legs. These lines should be parallel, slightly curved, and spaced apart to indicate the leg width. At the bottom of these lines, draw small rectangular shapes to represent the hooves.
Step 5: Sketch The Back Side Legs
Following the same step from above, draw the legs and add hooves. Make a slight bend to the legs to give them a natural, slightly bent appearance.
Step 6: Add Tail
Now, draw a tail on the back side of the body. First, draw a start line at the back, add an oval shape and add a fury texture to give it a natural look.
Step 7: Sketch The Ears And Mane
Draw a small, pointed oval or leaf shape to represent the ear. Inside it, add another small oval shape, as shown in the picture. For the left ear, just draw a triangle shape, as half of the ear is only visible. Then, for the mane, add short, jagged, or slightly curved lines from the top of the head to the back.
Step 8: Remove Extra Lines
Erase all the rough lines from the sketch that we drew earlier to add more details to it. This step will make the drawing neat and clean.
Step 9: Draw Facial Features
Sketch a circular shape for the eye, add another circle, and refine with your pencil for a natural look. Just above the eye, draw a bold curve line for the eyebrow.
Step 10: Sketch The Nosestril
Just below the eyes, draw a nostril and make a straight line to represent a clear look of the mouth.
Step 11: Add Details
Draw the characteristic zebra stripes on half of the body and mane as given in the image.
Step 12: Complete The Stripes
Finally, complete by drawing the stripes on the whole body and also on the legs. Make sure to vary the length and thickness for a more realistic appearance.
This will finally complete our drawing process. If you are interested in adding a touch of colour, follow the guide below. Let’s enjoy coloring as well.
Coloring The Zebra
We have used primary colors to give it a natural look. We have used pink inside the ear. Then, we simply put the black color on the texture of the zebra, making it look natural. Highlight the nose and the tail as well. We have completed the coloring process by adding blue to the eye.
Color Details:
- Blue
- Pink
- Black
For the coloring part, we have used pencil colors; you can use any of your preferences to make it more fun. We recommend you use pencil colors.
