Steps To Draw A Matki
You can get a quick glimpse of the process in the image below. For detailed step-by-step instructions follow the guide below.
Step 1: Creating Reference Lines
We begin by creating references or rough lines. Sketch an oval shape loosely as depicted in the image above. Feel free to use a pencil for these preliminary lines since they will be erased in the following steps.
Step 2: Adding the Second Oval Line
Next, sketch a second oval line, making sure it touches the first one as demonstrated in the image above. Once again, feel free to use a pencil for these preliminary lines since they will be erased in the future steps.
Step 3: Drawing Matki Outline
Begin by roughly sketching the mouth of the matki, then outline the matki’s body fairly, utilizing the reference lines drawn earlier. For this step, it’s recommended to use a marker or pen to create a clear outline.
Step 4: Drawing the Matki Mouth
Similarly, follow the reference lines to draw the matki mouth as shown in the image above, Then erase all rough lines to make it look neat and clean.
Complete Matki Mouth
To complete the drawing, add a circle inside the matki mouth as shown in the image. This will give our matki a finished look.
Step 6: Drawing Decorative Patterns
Now let’s add a decorative touch to the matki’s body. Begin by sketching three gentle curves at both the top and bottom. Then, draw two parallel lines inside these curves to complete the pattern just like the image above.
Step 7: Drawing a Curd
As we are drawing a Dahi handi matka for Krishna Janmashtami, let’s create the curd texture inside. Draw irregular, wavy lines to mimic the appearance of curd as in the image above.
Coloring a Matki
After completing the matki drawing, it’s time to add some vibrant colors. We’ve selected a few basic colors for this part of the process.
We begin by filling the body of the matki with a warm orange hue. For the cross design, we used a combination of red and dark green. Yellow is chosen for the lining, and a light yellow shade beautifully colors the curd. Feel free to customize the colors as you prefer.
Colour Details:
- Dark Green
- Orange
- Yellow
- Light Yellow
After coloring, we get a realistic matka dahi handi. You can use a pencil color (we made it digital).
