Steps To Draw A Groundhog
Here we have a short preview of today’s tutorial. Follow the detailed guide below to easily draw a groundhog step by step.
Step 1: Draw Rough Sketches
We begin by sketching preliminary lines. Start by drawing a rough oval for the groundhog head and add two straight lines on the right and left sides to represent the body. We are using a pencil to sketch rough lines as we will erase them in further steps.
Step 2: Sketch More Preliminary Lines
Now, draw the vertical half oval on both sides of the head roughly and again for drawing the groundhog’s hand, draw two straight lines on each side.
Step 3: Outline the Face of Groundhog
Next, trace the contours of the groundhog’s face, using the initial rough lines as a guide. Add small pointed fur details on top of the head and cheeks. Use a marker for this outlining step.
Step 4: Draw Hands Of Groundhog
Similarly, now draw the hands of the groundhog with four fingers on it referring to the rough sketch that we drew earlier.
Step 5: Draw Body Outline and Belly
Continuing from the hands, draw the body of the groundhog by sketching a semi-oval parallel to the outline of the body.
Step 6: Draw Ears
Now, sketch a small curve on both sides and inside that, draw another small curve to depict the ears of the groundhog.
Step 7: Sketch A Hole
We are depicting a scenario of a groundhog popping out of its hole. Draw small curved lines to represent the ground ensuring they connect with the hands.
Step 8: Complete the Hole
Now, complete drawing the groundhog hole and sketch some circles around the hole to represent mud.
Step 9: Erase All Rough Lines
Then, erase all the rough lines that we drew in the earlier steps. Finally, we get a cleaner look ou our cute groundhog.
Step 10: Sketch Nose Mouth & Teeth
Now in this step, we’re going to draw the face of the groundhog. Draw the nose, mouth, and two pointed teeth as shown in the image above.
Step 11: Draw Eyes & Eyebrows
In the final step, draw the groundhog’s eyes and eyebrows. Sketch oval-shaped eyes and bold pointed eyebrows at the top.
Coloring a Groundhog
After completing the drawing of the cute groundhog, we proceed to color it. For coloring, we have chosen some basic colors, but feel free to use colors according to your preference.
We colored the entire body of the groundhog and the mud particles around the hole with brown. For the nose and inside of the mouth, we used a dark brown color. Additionally, we applied a skin color to the mouth and belly of our cute groundhog. Finally, for the hole, we used a light brown color.
Colour Details:
- Light Brown
- Skin

- Dark Brown
After coloring, we get a cute groundhog. Here we learn to draw a groundhog getting out of its hole. You can use a pencil color (We made it digital).
