Steps To Draw A Giraffe
The giraffe has a short body, a tufted tail, a short mane, and short skin-covered horns. Here is a short demo of today’s tutorial. Follow the steps below to easily draw giraffe step by step.
Step 1: Draw Giraffe Head Skeleton
We’ll begin by sketching some rough lines. First, draw a circle as shown in the image above. Then, draw two parallel lines attached to the circle. Next, sketch a closed curved line representing the giraffe’s face. We use a pencil for these rough lines, as they will be erased in future steps.
Step 2: Draw Giraffe Body Skeleton
Now, roughly sketch an oval between the two parallel lines representing the body of a giraffe. For the forelegs, draw four lines that are wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. Repeat this for the back legs too.
Step 3: Draw Mouth
Using the rough lines as references, outline the mouth of the giraffe. Then, extend the line to draw the upper head from the mouth, using the reference lines drawn earlier. Use a marker or pen to outline clearly.
Step 4: Draw Giraffe Ears, Horns
Continuing with the reference lines, complete the head of the giraffe. Then, draw two leaf-shaped giraffe ears on either side of the head. Afterwards, add short, hairy horns at the top of the head.
Step 5: Draw Neck
As giraffes are known for their long necks, draw two curvy lines to represent the giraffe’s long neck referring to the lines drawn earlier as a guide.
Step 6: Draw Foreleg
Now, extending from the body of the giraffe, sketch two lines that are wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, forming the foreleg as shown in the image above. Sketch the sturdy knees of the giraffe, and then draw parallel lines to represent the legs. Draw irregular box-shaped hooves at the bottom of the legs, referring to the rough lines for guidance.
Step 7: Draw Another Foreleg
Similarly, draw another foreleg of the giraffe as shown in the image above. Use the reference lines as a guide, and use a marker or pen to outline the leg clearly.
Step 8: Draw Giraffe Hind Leg
Then, extend the giraffe’s body and draw two lines that are wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, but shorter this time as shown in the image above. Draw a parallel line to represent the giraffe’s legs. Afterward, draw the irregular box-shaped giraffe’s hoof referring to the lines drawn earlier as a guide.
Step 9: Draw Another Giraffe Hind Leg
Similarly, complete the body of the giraffe and draw two lines that are wider at the top and narrower at the bottom but shorter this time as shown in the image above. Draw a parallel line to represent the giraffe’s legs. Afterward, draw the irregular box-shaped giraffe’s hoof.
Step 10: Draw Giraffe Tail
Now, draw two curved lines to create the giraffe’s tail. Give the tail a flame-like shape.
Step 11: Erase Rough Lines
Now, erase all the rough lines that were drawn earlier. This will leave a clean outline of the giraffe, giving it a more refined and polished appearance.
Step 12: Draw Spots on Giraffe Body
Giraffes have distinct brown spots on their bodies, giving them a unique and cute appearance. Let’s draw various spots on the giraffe’s body by adding ovals and semi-ovals, as shown in the image above. Create small circles and ovals to represent the spots, placing them strategically on the giraffe’s body. Feel free to arrange them according to your preference.
Step 13: Add More Oval and Circle
Continuing the pattern, add more circles and ovals over the neck of the giraffe. Sketch semi-circles and semi-ovals along the neck, and full circles or ovals at the center. You can add spots according to your preference.
Step 14: Draw Giraffe Eyes
Now draw the oval eyes of the giraffe. Here make an eyeball look lower and also draw the inclined bold lines for drawing the eyebrows of the giraffe. Also, draw the giraffe’s mane at the backside. Additionally, draw the irregular lines from the giraffe’s head to the neck as in the image above.
Coloring a Giraffe
After completing the outline of the baby giraffe, let’s proceed with coloring. For coloring, we’ve chosen some basic colors. You can select colors according to your preference as well.
Fill the entire body of the giraffe with dark yellow. Then, use brown to color the spots on the giraffe’s body. Apply light yellow to the mouth area, and use dark brown for the mane and tail. Color the hooves with black. For the eyebrows and eyeballs, we use black color. Feel free to choose colors according to your preferences.
