Steps To Draw A Person
Here is an overview of today’s tutorial. We will complete a drawing of a person in 15 simple steps. Follow the guide carefully, as we’ve prepared it to help you get the basics of drawing a person step by step.
Step 1: Sketch the Shape of the Head
Start by drawing an oval or egg-shaped outline for the head. Leave a slight gap at the top to represent the hairline.
Step 2: Draw the Hair
Add a wavy line across the top of the head to form the hairline. Then, complete the hairstyle by drawing another curved line that follows the shape of the head, finishing the top portion of the hair, as shown in the image given.
Step 3: Add the Ears
Draw small semi-circles on each side of the head to create the ears. Ensure they are positioned at about the middle of the head for proper proportion.
Step 4: Sketch the Collar
Below the head, first, draw the shape of the neck by adding two short lines. Then, sketch two, pointed triangles on either side of the neck to form the shirt collar. These should point downward and slightly outward to give the actual look.
Step 5: Draw the Shoulder
Next starting from the bottom of the neck draw two angled lines that curve outwards and these will be the shoulders. These lines should then be curved slightly inwards, as they will form the arms as seen from the next line.
Step 6: Add the Tie
To this part add a small diamond shape that will represent the knot of the tie on the upgraded collar. Next, draw upon two lines from the knot down and connect them to create the rest of the tie from the knot part.
Step 7: Draw the Suit Collar
Starting from the neck part of the shirt, draw two lines downwards towards the middle part of the suit jacket. These must go down to just below the neck to the back slightly, resembling the collar of a formal suit.
Step 8: Sketch the Lower Part of the Suit
From the bottom of the suit collar, extend two lines down on each side to form the body of the suit jacket. Outward a little just below the waistline to give a more natural look to the jacket. Then, connect the two lines at the bottom to complete the lower part of the suit.
Step 9: Add a Curve Lines
From the edges of the suit sleeves, add curved lines from both sides that extend downward to indicate where the hands will be added later.
Step 10: Draw the Hands
Create small, open shapes resembling hands positioned at the sides of the sleeves. Add a few short lines to represent the fingers, then make it look like the hands are tucked slightly into the suit sleeves.
Step 11: Sketch the Left Leg
From the bottom of the suit jacket, draw two straight lines downward to form the left leg. Keep the lines close together to show the slim fit of the pants. Then, complete it by adding a circle at the bottom to represent the button of the pants.
Step 12: Draw the Right Leg
Using the same method as for the left leg, draw the right leg. Make sure the legs are evenly spaced as shown in the image given above.
Step 13: Add the Shoes
At the end of each leg sketch simple shoe shapes. You can begin by drawing short small rectangles with slightly curved shapes. At the top part of each shoe add a slight curve to indicate the toe.

In the middle of the face, draw two small circles for the eyes, making sure they are evenly spaced. Leave a tiny white spot in each circle to represent a light reflection, giving the eyes a more realistic appearance.
Step 15: Add Facial Features
Below the eyes, draw a small “C” shape to form the nose. Just under the nose, sketch a curved line for the mouth, using a double curve to give it more detail. Then, finally add two small curves above the eyes for the eyebrows and it makes a good expression for the face.

Coloring The Person
After completing the drawing process step by step, it’s time to add some color. We’ve chosen basic colors to keep it simple but feel free to get creative and use colors of your choice.
We began by coloring the suit in dark grey, followed by a light grey shade for the shirt. For the tie, we chose a bold red color to add contrast and make it stand out. The inside of the mouth is also given a touch of red color. For the face, we used a cream color to match the skin tone. Brown color has been used for hair and eyebrows. Lastly, we completed the process by adding black color to the shoes.
