In this tutorial, we will show you a step-by-step guide for drawing a sunflower, especially targeted for kids and beginners. Sunflowers are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. The common sunflower has a green stem covered in coarse hairs, growing about 2 meters tall. The leaves are broad, with serrated edges, and are arranged alternately on the stem.

Steps To Draw A Sunflower
You can either follow our video tutorial or the detailed stepwise guide. Here is a short preview of today’s tutorial.
Step 1: Draw Rough Outlines
Begin by sketching two straight lines with a pencil. Then draw a small circle at the top of the straight line roughly as in the image above. We are using a pencil to draw the rough part as we will erase it in further steps.
Step 2: Draw Sunflower Head
Now draw a circle using the rough lines to represent the disk florets as shown in the image. Next, draw an oval shape above the sunflower head and another one on the opposite side to represent the ray florets. Repeat the same step twice placing the ovals at different angles. We use a black marker to outline these initial shapes.
Step 3: Complete Ray Florets
Similarly, fill in the gaps between the ray florets of the flowers by drawing ovals. This will complete the sunflower head as shown in the image above.
Step 4: Draw Stem & Leaves
Next, sketch the sunflower’s stem using reference lines following the image above. Additionally, draw two curves close to each other to represent the sunflower’s leaf. Feel free to add more leaves according to your preference. We have drawn two leaves on our sunflower.
Step 5: Erase All The Rough Lines
Now erase all the rough lines that we have drawn in Step 1. Finally, we get a clean look at our sunflower.
Step 6: Give Some Texture and a Cute Look
Finally, add a happy smiling face to the sunflower following the image. Also, draw small lines within the ray florent for a texture to complete our sunflower.
Colouring a Sunflower
After completing the sunflower drawing, proceed to the coloring stage. We used the selected basic colors for the sunflower.
We mixed yellow and orange colors on the flower head while applying green to the stem and leaves of the sunflower. Additionally, we colored the flower mouth red.
Feel free to choose and apply colors according to your preferences in the drawing.
