Steps to Draw a Star
The Sun is a star that is closest to the Earth which makes our planet warm and bright. At night, we can see other stars twinkling in the sky which are also giant hot balls like the sun, but are very far away.
Let’s explore the night sky together! We’ll look for groups of stars called constellations and learn fun stories about them. After enjoying the starry view, let’s try to capture the beauty of a star on paper.
Here’s a brief preview of today’s tutorial. Please go through the instructions step by step to complete your sketching.
Step 1: Draw a Square
To outline a star, draw a square on the paper by joining 4 equal lines; two horizontal and two vertical lines.
Step 2: Sketch a Horizontal Line in the Middle
From the middle of the vertical line on the left, sketch a straight horizontal line to the middle of the vertical line on the right.
Step 3: Sketch a Vertical Line in the Middle
From the middle of the horizontal line at the top, sketch a vertical line up to the middle of the horizontal line at the bottom with the formation of four compartments.
Step 4: Add Short Lines
On the middle of the upper horizontal line, sketch a short straight line going upward and add two small lines below the lower two compartments. Then, add two more small lines just above the middle horizontal line.
Step 5: Sketch a Horizontal Line from Short Lines
Just above the middle horizontal line, sketch a horizontal line from the two small straight lines drawn in Step 4.
Step 6: Draw a Line to the Lower Compartment of the Square
For the arms of the star, sketch a straight line from the left end of the previously drawn line in Step 5 to the short line drawn on the right lower compartment.
Step 7: Sketch Line Moving Upward
Sketch a line from the end of the line drawn in Step 6 to the end of the middle vertical line at the top.
Step 8: Sketch a Line From the Upper midpoint of the Square
From the top of the middle vertical line, sketch a straight line to the short line on the lower left compartment of the square.
Step 9: Sketch a Straight Line from the Lower End
To complete the drawing of all the arms of the star, from the end of the line drawn in Step 8 on the lower left compartment of the square, sketch a straight line to the line just above the middle horizontal line on the right.
Step 10: Erase All the Extra Lines
Erase all the extra lines from the star leaving the outline of the star and middle vertical and horizontal lines.
Step 11: Add Straight Lines Inside the Star
From the midpoint of the square, sketch straight lines to all five pointed parts of the arms of the star.
Step 12: Add More Lines to Make More Detailed
To make the star more detailed, sketch short straight lines from the midpoint of the star to every two depressed parts of all the arms.
Step 13: Erase All the Extra Lines
Erase all the extra lines inside the square, including a middle vertical line, middle horizontal line, and lines of the square.
Coloring a Star
We have finished drawing a star and moving ahead to the coloring section. For coloring, we have chosen two shades of yellow. We are coloring the parts of the arm of a star with Lemon Yellow and Goldenrod Yellow alternately. Then alternately repeat the same color to all the four remaining arms of the star.

After coloring, we get a beautiful drawing of a star. We have used two different shades of yellow but you can color with any color you choose. In this tutorial, we have drawn a star digitally but you can use pencil color.
