A kangaroo is a marsupial native to Australia known for its powerful hind legs and pouch, which females use to carry their babies. Today, we will draw a kangaroo step by step.
Kangaroos have small front legs with paws used for grasping and feeding. We hope you will enjoy drawing and colouring the animal. Follow the steps carefully for a perfect sketch.

Steps To Draw A Kangaroo
The image below provides a brief guide for today’s drawing. To draw a kangaroo step-by-step, follow the steps below. This guide is designed for beginners and kids so that you can draw it perfectly without making mistakes.
Step 1: Draw an oval
Start by sketching an oval shape to represent the kangaroo’s left ear. This shape somehow looks like a tiny lemon in the image above.
Step 2: Outline The Head
Next, sketch a curved line, making a head, and then, draw the right side of the ear following the same process from above.
Step 3: Sketch The Basic Shape
Then, extend the shape downward from the head, and draw a tiny circle for the nose. Just below the nose, add a C-shaped line toward the animal’s ear.
Step 4: Draw The Mouth
To create a smile, make a U-shape below the nose. Then, extend a curved line from behind the ear to create the body shape.
Step 5: Outline The Hands
Now, draw two small, curved lines extending outward from the body for the arms and making slight bends at the elbows. Then, create small, rounded shapes for the hands, adding tiny, rounded tips to represent the fingers.
Step 6: Sketch the Lower Body
Continuing sketching downward, curved line from just below the hand. Then, sketch another curved line from the left side of the body, making a “C” shape that connects at the bottom with the first line. This will outline the lower part of the kangaroo’s body and give it a rounded, natural shape. Then, draw flat feet to complete the kangaroo’s legs with tiny fingers.
Step 7: Draw Basic Lines
Outline a curved line from the middle of the body to give the legs a natural look, and create a pouch just to the side of the kangaroo’s body.
Step 8: Add Tail
From the lower back area of the kangaroo’s body, draw a long, thick, curved line extending outward to represent the tail. Give it a natural and balanced look.
Step 9: Sketch The Eyes
Finally, draw two large oval shapes for the outline of the eyes, then add a small dot or a circle to represent the pupils. Shade the area of the pupils and use thin eyelashes and eyebrows to give it depth and a natural look.
Make sure everything is perfectly placed, and erase unnecessary lines to make your drawing neat. This will finally complete our drawing process.
Coloring The Kangaroo
Once the drawing of the kangaroo is complete, start following the coloring process. We have selected some primary colors.
We started the process by colouring the nose dark brown and adding a pink shade to the inner parts of the ears. Blue was used inside the eyes to make them look realistic. For the front part of the animal, we used cream, and we completed the process by adding brown all over the body.
Color Details:

Finally, our cute-looking kangaroo is ready; we have drawn it as a cartoon version. We hope you loved the process.
