Steps To Draw Halloween Pumpkin
Halloween is celebrated annually on October 31. Many consider it to be the spookiest holiday of the year. It’s a unique time when people actively seek out and enjoy being scared.
Here is a short overview of today’s tutorial. Follow along with us as we go through 8 simple steps to sketch our jack-o’-lantern.
Step 1: Draw Rough Oval
Begin by creating a rough sketch of the pumpkin. Start by drawing an oval shape as illustrated in the image above. It’s advisable to use a pencil at this stage since we’ll be erasing and refining the shape in subsequent steps.
Step 2: Outline Half Pumpkin
Next, sketch the curvy outline of the pumpkin up to half following the rough reference line you drew in Step 1 as shown in the image above. You can use a marker or pen to outline a more defined shape for this part.
Step 3: Complete Pumpkin Layout
Following the same method, complete half of the pumpkin outline by sketching a curvy shape along the rough reference line you created in step 1 as demonstrated in the image above. Make irregular curves at the pumpkin’s top and bottom to give it a more natural look. For this step, you can continue to use a marker or a pen for a cleaner outline.
Step 4: Draw Silly Smile
Now, sketch a playful and smiling mouth for our Halloween pumpkin just like the one shown in the figure above. Inside the mouth, draw two teeth, one at the upper part and one at the bottom.
Step 5: Draw Jack O’ Lantern Eyes & Nose
To give your jack-o’-lantern a scary appearance, draw two triangles to create the eyes of the jack-o’-lantern. Additionally, draw a small triangle in the middle for the nose as demonstrated in the image above. These features will add a spooky character to our pumpkin.
Step 6: Draw Pumpkin Ribs
To complete the look of your Halloween pumpkin, draw small lines extending from the curvy edges at both the top and bottom. These lines represent the pumpkin’s ribs as shown in the image above. This adds an authentic pumpkin texture to your drawing.
Step 7: Draw Pumpkin Stem and Vine
Next, draw two lines from the top and connect them to create the stem of the pumpkin. Additionally, draw a dark, curvy rounded line to represent a pumpkin vine as depicted in the image. These details complete the pumpkin’s features.
Step 8: Give a Scary Look
Now let’s give some texture that our Halloween pumpkin looks so much scary. Draw a single line on the eyes, nose, and mouth following the layout of the eyes, nose, and mouth simultaneously as in the image above.
Coloring Halloween Pumpkin
Once you’ve finished drawing your Halloween pumpkin, it’s time to move on to coloring. We’ve selected some basic colors for this step, but feel free to use your own color choices if you prefer.
First, we colored the whole body of the pumpkin orange. Then we added yellow for the light inside the pumpkin. We also colored the stem dark green. To give our jack-o’-lantern a scary look, we colored the inner borders of the eyes, nose, and mouth dark orange. You can fill in the colors according to your preferences as well.
