Steps To Draw a Cupcake
Now, let’s dive into our tutorial on drawing a cupcake for kids. You can also follow our video tutorial for a visual guide. Check out the short demo in the image below and follow the stepwise instructions to draw a cupcake easily.
Step 1: Draw Rectangle
Start by sketching rough or reference lines. Draw a rectangle that is narrow at the top and wide at the bottom as shown in the image above.
Step 2: Draw Cupcake Wrapper Outline
Now, draw two slightly inclined lines from the top corner of the rectangle and join both lines with another straight line as shown in the image above. Use the reference lines or rectangles that we drew in Step 1. Draw with precision using a marker or a pen.
Step 3: Draw Cupcake Wrapper Design
Now, draw a wavy line and connect the upper lines as shown in the image above. Here, we have completed the outline of the cupcake’s wrapper. Use the reference lines or rectangles that we drew in Step 1. Draw with precision using a marker or a pen.
Step 4: Draw Cupcake Frosting or Cream
Now, from the wavy wrapper draw the frosting or cream of the cupcake as shown in the image above. Here, we drew a rectangular and pointed cream layer at the top of the wrapper.
Step 5: Draw Another Layer of Cupcake Frosting or Cream
Similarly, from the previous layer of cream, draw another layer of frosting or cream on the cake as in the image above. Here we draw a cream that is pointed at the top and placed on top of the second cream.
Step 6: Draw Cherry
For the topping of the cupcake, draw a circular cherry with a small branch as shown in the image above. Here, we drew a circle at the top layer of the cake and then added a curvy line for the cherry branch.
Step 6: Erase Rough Part
Now, erase all the rough lines that we drew earlier as shown in the image above. These rough lines are just for reference purposes.
Step 8: Draw Wrapper Lines
To give a realistic look to the wrapper, draw seven straight lines inclined to each other inside the wrapper as shown in the image above.
Step 9: Draw Toppings
We just finished drawing a cupcake. Now, draw some small circles to represent chocolate toppings on the cake as shown in the image above. Additionally, draw some rectangular shapes to enhance the realism.
Coloring a Cupcake
After the drawing of a cupcake is completed, we move forward with coloring. For coloring, we have chosen some basic colors.
While coloring, we used light blue for the cupcake wrapper and toppings. The cupcake frosting is colored pink, and the cherry at the top, as well as some toppings, are colored red. Feel free to use colors according to your preference.
Colour Details:
- Light Blue
- Red
- Pink
After coloring, we get a realistic cupcake with a cherry on top. You can use a pencil color (we made it digital).
