Steps To Draw A Butterfly
They have six legs which are jointed, three parts of the body, and two antennae. You can go with the video tutorial or follow the steps below. Here are the short steps for drawing a butterfly. Follow the steps below to easily draw a butterfly step by step.
Step 1: Draw an Eye Outline
We are starting by drawing two small circle shapes for the eyes of the butterfly as in the image above. We prefer using a pen or marker for a sharp and clean look.
Step 2: Draw Butterfly Head, Thorax and Abdomen
Now, draw the small triangle for the butterfly’s head and the triangle sides should be curved as drawn below. Then for the thorax of the butterfly, draw a small circle and below draw an oval facing upwards for the abdomen of our cute butterfly.
Step 3: Draw Fore Wings
Then, now draw the fore wings of the butterfly on the right and left sides as in the drawing above. It is one of the difficult steps in this tutorial as we need to sketch the wings symmetrical or equal in size. Start sketching a curvy line from the head and end it to the thorax lower joints.
Step 4: Draw Hind Wings
Similarly, now draw hind wings on the right and left sides as in the drawing above. Here, we need to sketch the wings symmetrical or equal in size.
Step 5: Draw Butterfly Antenna and Face
Now, draw two antenna at the top of the head and in the face part, draw a small dot inside the eyes of the butterfly and again draw small curved lines for the nose and draw small curve for the smiley mouth of the butterfly. Then, draw three small curve lines inside the abdomen of the butterfly as in the drawing above to complete our butterfly.
Step 6: Draw Wings Veins
Then, now draw four wing Veins in the upper forewings on both sides as shown in the drawing above. Just sketch the ovals of different shapes and sizes inside of the wings.
Step 7: Draw Wing Veins On Hind Wing
Lastly, now draw Wing Veins in the lower wings or hind wings on both sides. Here we only sketch a big size oval inside of the wing. Finally, we have drawn a beautiful butterfly, now let’s move forward to colouring it.
Colouring a Butterfly
After the drawing of the cute butterfly is completed we move forward with colouring the beautiful butterfly. For colouring, we had chosen some basic colours. You can fill colour according to our wish too.
We coloured Orange on the fore wings and yellow on the hind wings. Then we coloured yellow and green to fore wing veins. And similarly, we coloured orange to the hind wing veins. For the antenna, we use orange and for the body, the head, thorax and abdomen we use a light yellow. And on the abdomen, we use an orange for the abdomen layer.
Colour Details:
- Green
- Yellow
- Orange
After colouring, we get a beautiful butterfly. You can use a pencil colour(We made it digital). Alternatively, you even can change colours while colouring.
